to monkey around with the electoral question in order robert cost and steve, let's talk politics. i don't know what your current constituency is or who you have to work with, but it seems to me there's a national consensus on doing something on background checks. people with mental, emotional problems, with criminal records should not get a gun, at least in a formal transaction where you can stop it. i'm not sure we're ready to go for the assault weapons ban again because of the opposition by the nra and the gun owners of america or whatever it's called. your thoughts? >> i think this is where the rubber meets the road. if you're the democrat and you're from one of those purple states, this is a very tough vote for you. but, frankly, it's why you're a democrat. there is widespread agreement on background checks. there's widespread agreement on these magazines that can hold up to a hundred rounds. and the assault weapons ban is where it gets kind of tough for democrats. but i think those democrats who don't want to vote for an assault weapons ban might find a tea party on the left, a pri

. we have breaking news from dulles airport. two planes clipped each other's wings. steve is outside with what we know so far. >> a close call as those two planes did, in fact, make contact with each other but fortunately, no injuries. the university nighted flight left brussels and it was a direct flight. the plane landed 20 minutes early. as it was pulling into the gate, it clipped the wing of a parked plane next to it. nobody was on board the parked plane but the plane aliving from brussels was full at the time. now, as far as the planes these are 777, each one capable of holding more than 300 passengers. i talked to one man who was on the plane and he said he didn't feel anything and he was not aware anything that happened. he said none of the other passengers felt anything as well. he didn't know anything happened all the way through customs all the way through security until he talked to them. he said their baggage was delayed about an extra 30 minutes. when he asked about the delay he was told the cargo door was frozen shut. as fa
